CCO Campus Ministry

The ministry at Carnegie Mellon University is multifaceted. CCO staff member Rebecca Verley is working in cooperation with Shadyside Presbyterian Church, and Jonny Cagwin works with Church of the Ascension to meet the needs of CMU students. Greg Burdette reaches out to graduate students in partnership with Bellefield Presbyterian Church, and Ken Wagoner works specifically with Chinese scholars in cooperation with China Outreach Ministries and PRISM.

Rebecca works with the on-campus group FLoG (For the Love of God) which is a Bible study that meets weekly on Tuesdays at 9 pm in the University Center. Shadyside Presbyterian Church serves CMU students through weekly dinners on Sunday evenings at 6 pm at 1912 Wightman Street. Students also have an opportunity to get to know a “Campus Connector,” someone from the congregation who shows them hospitality and helps them to feel more at home at Shadyside Pres. Contact Rebecca for more details.

The CCO serves the athletic community on campus through Bible studies and small groups specifically for the football and track teams. Jonny Cagwin leads a Bible Study for the track team and helped to establish a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter on CMU’s campus. Athletes from the soccer, football, cross-country, track, swimming, and dance teams meet every other Monday night at 8:30 in the University Center. Contact Jonny for more details.

Bellefield Presbyterian Church, Shadyside Presbyterian Church and Church of the Ascension, an Anglican parish, are all located within walking distance from Carnegie Mellon University. Church of the Ascension offers students Sunday evening Bible studies (at 7pm every week), weekend service opportunities, and a community of believers that values the university community. Join Church of the Ascension for worship.

Bellefield Presbyterian Church reaches out to graduate students at various Pittsburgh universities. Students from area departments are invited to grow vocationally and spiritually during their stay in graduate school. Places of ministry include weekly Bible studies, movie discussions, local and international trips, and service in the local church.

Also, CCO staff worker Ken Wagoner works primarily with Chinese students, in one-on-one and small-group settings.
