CCO staff member Joshua Hayes and associate staff member Jonathan Coopersmith reach out to students at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in a variety of ways.
Joshua advises the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at Slippery Rock. FCA is a ministry that reaches both male and female varsity and club athletes through many different avenues. We have a large-group fellowship that meets on Monday nights from 8-9pm in the Morrow Field House, Room 31. At the fellowship, we provide a variety of speakers to share with students the message of the gospel while encouraging them to wrestle with the questions it demands on our lives. During the fellowship, students often get to work in small groups, so they are able to have conversations with their peers about what they are learning.
The large group fellowship provides a link for students to many other opportunities throughout the week such as small-group Bible studies, discipleship, team huddles, breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings, outdoor ministry trips, summer opportunities, conferences and other weekend social events. Currently, the football team and volleyball team hold a devotional and prayer time before each game.
The Harbor is a campus fellowship available for all students, whether they are athletes or not. The Harbor meets on Wednesday evenings at 9:00pm on the 2nd floor of the University Union. This is a non-threatening environment where anyone who wants to learn more about the Christian faith can study the Bible and share in small-group discussion, and build friendships with other SRU students.
Many students are getting involved and are making a great impact for the Kingdom on their teams and on campus.
