- Builds friendships with and ministers to middle school college aged youth; adapts easily to the maturity and interest levels of different ages of youth; seeks to grow personally by participating with these youth; looks for opportunities to grow the ministry; establishes long term growth goals and measures his/her work in light of them.
- Incorporates the two “fronts” of ministry (youth & college) into one, integrated ministry when possible; provides leadership to students by showing them how ministry is done; facilitates friendships between teenagers and college students; develops ministry potential in college students by involving them in youth ministry; encourages growth in youth by exposing them to spiritually mature collegians; builds a supportive environment where everyone helps each other.
- Discerns the state of a young person’s walk with God; sizes people up; assesses their needs and potential; provides on-one-one mentoring and guidance to select persons.
- Identifies the skills necessary for effective ministry to be accomplished and then involves church members and student leaders in carrying it out; boldly requests help; acts as a manager and delegator; energizes and focuses a diverse array of people: (e.g. teenage girls, elderly men).
- Gently, but firmly, confronts when necessary; gives admonition, discipline and words of correction; also nurtures, affirms, and encourages.
- Establishes and arranges for bible studies, large group meetings and weekend activities of all sorts (e.g. retreats, lock-ins, pizza parties); functions as a coordinator during the activities; participates while maintaining control.
- Efficiently organizes a busy schedule; deals effectively with the challenge of juggling many things at once; prioritizes and concentrates on what can be done; doesn’t get drowned in the detail; presses on when confronted with the obstacles of disinterest, lack of support, and the burden of a heavy work load.
- Communicates in diverse ways; enjoys discussion; asks both casual and penetrating questions; writes and sends invitations; speaks publicly before large groups.
- Seeks direction when necessary; eagerly receives direction when it is given.
